アメリカ人英会話講師 Luella ルエラ 札幌

Hello, my name is Luella. I`m from the United States. I`ve been living in Sapporo since December 2005, and I really love it! I`m interested in living abroad and learning about different cultures and languages. I enjoy teaching English conversation because it gives me an opportunity to meet and talk with all kinds of people. My hobby is designing and making jewelry from stone beads and other natural materials. In my free time I like to read books, study Japanese and spend time at the beach-I love the ocean. Sapporo is a great city because it`s convenient and safe, and there is a lot of beautiful nature nearby. And the food here in Hokkaido is wonderful, in my opinion some of the best in Japan! I look forward to meeting you.

Spring?

2010年2月24日 (水)

Hello everyone,

How are you? I'm doing well, especially because spring is in the air! The last couple of days in Sapporo have been wonderfully warm, and I feel like a bear coming out of hibernation:) I know what you're thinking, it's Sapporo, it's only February, and there's bound to be another snow storm or two before spring truly appears. But it's a nice reminder of what's to come. And next month is March! We have a saying in English:
"March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb." Meaning, March starts out  with harsh, unpleasant weather, but it ends mild and warm. Hopefully this is true in Sapporo as well, especially the latter part! I wonder if there are any similar sayings in Japanese?

Please enjoy the "spring" weather while it lasts!

Sincerely, Luella

A Late Happy New Year

2010年1月18日 (月)

Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope you had a nice, relaxing holiday. Mine was a bit busy, but fun. On Christmas I cooked a big American style Christmas dinner with my family. My dad and I cooked all day. We had turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie-the works! It was delicious, especially since I hadn't had a traditional Christmas dinner in  over four years! The Sunday after Christmas I was able to get away from Sapporo to go to a hot spring in Jozankei with a friend. It was very relaxing-I love hot springs! My New Year's Eve was uneventful. I had a quiet dinner with a friend. We ate delicious food, drank champaign, and watched the New Year specials on TV. At midnight we had a countdown and hailed the beginning of 2010 with a lovely bowl of toshikoshi soba.

I have great hopes for 2010. I even made some New Year resolutions: To become healthier and lose a bit of weight, to really start studying Japanese again, and to start saving money! So far, I'm disappointed with my lack of motivation in keeping my resolutions, but it's only January, so I suppose I can consider it my one-month grace period before buckling down and getting serious about making positive changes in my life ;)

May you have a peaceful and prosperous year!

Sincerely,
Luella

Christmas Is In the Air

2009年12月11日 (金)

Hello everyone. Christmas is on the air, and for the first time in several years I'm feeling the Christmas spirit. For one thing, I have several year-end parties (忘年会) to go to, which gives me a celebratory, festive feeling. Also, I'm enjoying the Christmas lights in Odori park and throughout the downtown area. It makes the dark of winter much more cheerful:)

This year I am going to roast a turkey with my family. I was able to reserve one at Mitsukoshi Department Store. We'll have all the trimmings as well: stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce-even pumpkin pie! It will be a lot of work, but it's worth it. I haven't had a Christmas dinner in four years, since I came to Japan, so I'm really looking forward to it!

I hope you can get into the Christmas spirit as well!

-Luella
