A Common Problem in Sapporo

2012年8月25日 (土)

The underground walkway between Sapporo station and Odori station opened last March, so it has been open for over a year by now.

It’s very convenient; pedestrians can walk without waiting for traffic lights, and cars can move more smoothly on Ekimai-dori.  In the winter it is especially nice because it’s warm and dry, and there are events and exhibitions going on all year, so I am really glad we have it.

But, there is one problem with the underground walkway – the exits.

The exits in Sapporo station and Odori station are all numbered, and the exits in the underground walkway are numbered, too.  Many times when I have agreed to meet people we have gone to different places.
For example, I have gone to exit number 5 of the walkway when my friend has gone to exit 5 of Sapporo subway station.  It can be very confusing.  I think it is similar to the difference between Daimaru Department Store and Daimaru Fujii Central.

Please be careful if you plan to meet someone in the underground walkway.

Also, have you noticed that there is no exit number 4?
Is this because it’s bad luck?  I wonder…
