A summer poem

Poetry is a form of literature that uses sounds, symbolism and meter (units of rhythm) to express emotion, make a comment or observation about life, or simply to amuse the reader. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes -from sonnets to haiku to epic poetry – and are a fun way to practice writing, in your own language or another. So here’s a little poem about summer for you now.

When the summer sun hangs burning

Greening the earth below

North Island denizens rejoice

 Forgetting about the snow

Packed away tightly

are the scarves, gloves and mitts

Traded for shorts and skirts

exposing pale arms, legs and

Skin that browns readily, in the northern heat

How nice it is to feel the grass

Against the pads of my feet

Not my best work, but I hope you liked it anyway; ) Enjoy the heat.
