Elephants in Maruyama

2019年5月27日 (月)

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the new elephant exhibit at the Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo. I went to the zoo with my family on a sunny but chilly afternoon. My children were very excited to see the elephants. I was delighted to see that the elephants have a large enclosure with many different features. We were able to view two of the three Asian Elephants. They were happily walking around and even eating straw from a hanging net. There were many nice angles to view the elephants from above, and even partially underwater. My favorite part was when one of the elephants reached her trunk through a wall that had many holes. She was looking for a barrel with straw inside. She tried a few different holes until she found one that allowed her to reach the barrel. It was amazing to see the control and flexibility that elephants have with their trunks. I look forward to visiting the Maruyama Zoo again. Hopefully, I will be there when the elephants are playing in the water!
