Future Imperfect?
2018年1月15日 (月)
I shall, as on occasion I wish to do, wander into another topic of interest, that of AI. AI, or Artificial Intelligence, began when scientists started to create computer programs that could mimic human thought processes. It began with computers such as IBM`s Deep Blue which eventually beat the very best chess players on the planet. This year a computer beat the World Champion Go player, a game of incredible complexity, and one which 20 years ago was thought to be utterly unbeatable. With the ascendant rise of such power AI is now set to take over much more than most people realize. This year, a few accountants’ jobs, next year 6000 banking jobs in Japan, and this is just the beginning. Is this a positive change for us as a species or should we be worried? Only time will tell, but if we can replace all those mind numbing repetitive jobs with AI machines, I’m sure no one will mind in the long run.
Mimic – to be similar too, act in an identical way
Complexity – to have many layers of difficulty
Utterly – totally, completely
Ascendant – to grow in power
Mind numbing – very boring
Repetitive – to do the same action again and again
