Jane Austen`s "Emma", a book for valentines
2018年3月18日 (日)
Hello everyone. As February is the month of love and St valentines, I thought I`d write about romance. The subject of valentines differs from country to country. In Japan, as far as I can tell, valentines is a time to appreciate the people in your life. This is similar to England, however we only show appreciation to loved ones and to usually only one special person. I guess in the UK it is a day so show someone how important they are to you. I like the Japanese way of showing appreciation to your colleagues because they are perhaps your work family but I do find the white day tradition a little confusing. One of my favourtie authors is Jane Austen, I love her old school views of romance. Actually this week I have been reading Emma, I absolutely adore this book. Emma, the main character, is against love for herself. The quote that comes to mind is “I never have been in love; it is not my way, or my nature; and i do not think I ever shall”. However as the book unravels and a number of unexpected consequences occur she falls in love. At the risk of sounding cliche this really is a Jane Austen classic and a breathe of fresh air, I recommend it to any other hopeless romantic.
