La La Lame

I had heard amazing things about La La Land, A return to the old romance of the classic musical, a moving romantic modern take on the musicals of yesteryear, and so on. So I was really looking forward to a bit of modern Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers but I was cruelly disappointed. I don’t usually slate a movie but this was boring. I mean slow, with characters I cared little about. The dancing was amateurish, the singing laughable and the choreography stale and unimaginative. The plot itself dragged like a lame drunk and seemed to meander without a clear goal. Yes, the ending was bitter sweet but as I had no buy in with the characters I couldn’t have cared less. Do yourself a favour and skip this piece of garbage, watch West Side Story instead. Real tunes, great story, and wonderful dance sequences. All sadly lacking from La La Land.
