Moonlight

So this was a movie that garnered a lot of attention from many quarters and landed the Oscar for best picture, after a controversial mix-up with La La Land. Now La La land was, in my opinion, highly over rated and mediocre at best. So what of Moonlight? Well, it was an understated film which quietly moved through three stages of a young mans growth into adulthood. It dealt with various heavy topics such as a junkie mother, his sexual awakening, and poverty. However, although the subject matter was emotionally heavy, the movie was slow and paced perfectly. Everything happened for a reason but it took a while to gather all the threads of he story together. Was it Oscar worthy? Not in my opinion, but it is worth a watch as it’s a solid story, well filmed, and moving in parts. However, its not going to be one I would watch again.
