Nearly Pitch Perfect
I do like a good musical once in a while and thankfully this was a good musical. A sleeper hit back in 2012 this became a must-see slice of escapism. It really has a paper-thin plot, over the top characters, and is overly reliant on slapstick humour. However, there are just enough subtle jokes and small crazy set pieces that it works. The musical numbers are pretty non-descript without being annoying and the casting is spot on. All the characters fit their roles and play them well. Not to spoil the plot but it’s the usual university kids winning against the odds story. Not genre defying, yet as a piece of comedy it is worth watching just for the whispering gags alone, that and Rebel Wilson (yes that is her name) who steals the show as Fat Amy.
