SUMMER

2009年5月28日 (木)

Hi everyone. There are lots of great things about living in Sapporo, but the truth is, I hate the cold. I have lived in colder places than Sapporo, but I have also lived in very hot places, and I absolutely prefer the latter of the two. Needless to say, I am VERY happy that summer finally seems to be around the corner. I planted some vegetable and herb seeds in some trays in an East-facing window (in truth, the only window) in my one-room apartment over a month ago, and they have grown quite a bit. A friend of mine has lent me some space in his garden, and I am really looking forward to transferring my seedlings there soon. There is nothing like vegetables picked fresh from a garden one has tended oneself, with love and care. I love mexican food, so I had my grandmother (who lives in the state of New Mexico in the U.S.) send me the seeds of two different varieties of pepper: the Jalapeno pepper, which is quite spicy, and the Poblano pepper, which is mildly spicy and has a wonderfully rich flavor. I am also growing tomatoes, coriander, arugula and basil, so I will have all the fresh ingredients I need to make delicious Mexican and Italian dishes throughout the summer. I hope you have a great summer, too. There is so much to do and enjoy in this season!
