The Camp Fire

2018年11月20日 (火)

Many of you may have heard about the Camp Fire which is burning in northern California. I hope that by the time you read this, the fire will be contained and there will be no more damage or injuries. So far, hundreds of people have been injured or killed, and thousands have been displaced from their homes, with even more still missing. Fires are a perennial problem in California, and it will be difficult to prevent them in the future, because they are a natural part of the ecosystem.

Today I wanted to explain something about how fires are named in California. The names come from the place where the fire is first discovered. The “Camp” Fire was named for Camp Creek Road, which is a road near the point where the wildfire began. It was not given this name because it was started by a campfire. The cause of the fire is currently still unknown.
