The Royal Wedding
2018年5月28日 (月)
Hello everyone. I’m sure that everyone knows about the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It is quite big news in the UK and everyone is excited about how they are planning the wedding. I just read that the wedding will be held in St Georges Chapel at Windsor Castle and British cello prodigy Sheku Kanneh-Mason will be playing. I think this royal wedding will be more whimsical than Prince William and Kate`s wedding. British people love a good wedding and it brings everyone together. Often, when I call my mum she will talk about Meghan Markle and how excited she is to have a Canadian in the royal family. It makes me smile to think that tradition is still extremely important in England.
On the subject of weddings, lots of my students didn’t know that in the UK the bride and groom fund the wedding themselves. The guests are required to bring a gift (usually of varying prices, from a gift wish list). In Japan, or at least Hokkaido, some the financial burden is shouldered by the guests. I like this system because it feels like I am contributing to the bride and grooms future happiness by paying an entrance cost. It`s funny to me how many things in Japan are so similar to UK and yet so different. What do you think?
