Today I would like to write about one of my favorite drinks for summer: whisky. Many people in Sapporo like to drink beer in the summer, and I do too, but there are some good things about whisky that I would like to share with you.
1. Whisky has almost zero sugar and doesn’t lead to weight gain. Summer foods and barbecues are a lot of fun, but adding beer to a meal can raise the total number of calories very quickly. Did you know that a can of regular beer has about the same amount of carbohydrates as a piece of bread? Whisky has no carbohydrates.
2. Whisky is delicious straight, on the rocks, or with soda. I also sometimes like to drink whisky with a little water added. It is easy to drink just a little bit of whisky, but beer cans are often large and people sometimes drink too much.
3. Whisky comes in many different varieties and flavors. It is true that craft beer (so-called 地ビール) is becoming more popular these days, with a wide variety of tastes and types, but most people drink the same light pilsner all the time. Whisky on the other hand, offers a huge variety of styles and tastes to match anyone’s preference.
4. Whisky is cheaper than beer, too! Per glass, most kinds of whisky are cheaper than most kinds of beer.
For these reasons, I have been drinking more whisky and less beer over the past few months. I hope you can try some different drinks and find what’s best for you.
