Computer Music

2018年3月12日 (月)

Another wander away from my usual film babble, today I wish to expound upon another passion, or my greatest passion of all, writing music. I have spent most of my life tunelessly strumming, plucking, hitting, and shouting in a shameless attempt to create music. I have also been using computers to do all the hard work for me, and that is what I wish to write about here. When I began 20 years ago I had a very low powered Atari which I plugged into my Roland keyboard and had to program, in order to make any decent sound. Over the years I slowly upgraded through a series of PC`s, a laptop, and now an iPad. The iPad is astonishing. It is as powerful as a pro studio was 10 years ago, and yet you can get all the programs, or apps, you need for less than $300. I can now mix and even record in my lunch break and produce pro quality songs anywhere in a tenth of the time it used to take, because the iPad is so portable and stable. It does take some practice and patience to learn, but if you have ever wanted to write and record some music there has never been an easier or cheaper time to do it than now.

Babble – unclear way of talking

Expound – to present, explain

Shameless – without caring about what people think

Atari – The name of an old home computer company

Upgrade – to get a newer version of something

Portable – to be able to move and carry
