Taking Road Trips

Hokkaido is a great place to take road trips.  Not only are there plenty of places to visit and things to do, there’s also great food!

For those of you who enjoy taking hotspring baths, there are numerous places around Sapporo.  They are easy to get to and can be done on a day trip.  If you prefer excitement, you can go to the amusement park in Rusutsu.  Of course you can also enjoy the beautiful nature Hokkaido has to ofter and simply drive to a nearby lake or mountain.

If you visit Tokachi you can have a nice rice bowl topped with tender BBQ pork.  If you’d rather have seafood, you can go to a number of different places including Shakotan and Otaru.  On your way to Shakotan you can also enjoy fruit picking in Yoichi (or enjoy some whiskey at the Nikka Whiskey Distillery).

I love traveling around Hokkaido.  It’s nice to take a short trip and get away from Sapporo from time to time.  And who doesn’t like some nice, fresh air?
