This is a movie I saw a while ago but which I found to be memorable, not for its story, which was predictable, but for its mood. Set on the Mississippi, it follows the story of two young boys from very poor backgrounds who befriend a murderer who is on the run. A coming of age movie along the lines of films like Stand By Me, it follows the boys as they discover life and learn lessons through making mistakes. A slow movie, but one which doesn’t feel overlong, it is a great way to spend an afternoon. I do however have to complain about the ending which was a little far fetched for my liking, I prefer the protagonist to die rather that miraculously survive, still it is a Hollywood movie so I guess that’s what keeps the punters happy.

Predictable – easy to guess, forecast

To be on the run – being chased by the police

Coming of age story – A story in which children become more mentally mature

Far fetched – to be too silly to be believable

Punter – paying member of the public
