Happy New Year!
2017年1月10日 (火)
Hello everyone! How was the year 2016 for you? Did you have a good year?
Every year I always make a few New Years Resolutions (what I want to do, accomplish or change in the coming year). My first resolution is to save money for a trip back home during the summer holiday. My second resolution is to study Japanese grammar and finish my grammar textbook. My third resolution is to become more healthy by being more active and eating nutritional meals.
If you make a resolution, I hope you can be successful! Good luck to all of you this year, the year of the rooster, 2017!
Hard work
2016年10月4日 (火)
Hi everyone, how has 2016 been so far for you? I’m writing this on the 5-year anniversary of the 2011 tsunami. I hope you’ll take a moment to remember that day
and those people who were so unfortunate to have lost their lives. I wonder how much has changed since then?
Well, spring is right around the corner and I know many of you are looking forward to warmer weather! Speaking of looking forward, I want to take a moment to
congratulate a student of mine here at StepUp. This student studied intensely with us and finally, after lots of test taking and essay writing, has been accepted into
a medical program at Harvard University!
I’m really proud of his hard work and dedication to improving his language ability. He came in as a beginner and is leaving as a highly proficient speaker. Our lessons
have been challenging but very fun, and I’m going to miss teaching him.
This student has been a reminder to me that hard work is the key to reaching your dreams. Let’s let him be an inspiration to us all, this year.
Cheers! qrc:///xui/tray_popup/win/index.html#
Summer has come!
2016年6月27日 (月)
The first day of summer was last week, and finally the weather has gotten warm and sunny, so I think a lot of people around Hokkaido are happy about the nice weather.
This year, June has been very grey and cold and rainy, which isn’t much fun for anyone. But, to be honest, I was a little bit happy about the rain, because it saved me from having hay fever this year. (I usually have itchy, watery eyes and keep sneezing in June.) Still, even I was happy to find we had clear warm weather today. I think Hokkaido is a great place for driving and going out to parks to see greenery during summer, and the nice thing about Sapporo is all of the delicious food that we can get during this season. I’m looking forward to eating tomatoes and cucumbers and beets, as well as corn and beans this summer. I also love peaches and plums and the other summer fruits that we get at this time of year. If I can, I want to get some fresh corn and roast it at home for a snack.
If I can, I want to go to Mashike to eat some seafood and buy sake at Kunimare, and I also am looking forward to having a barbecue party with my friends, if I have enough time.
It’s been a few months since I have written a diary entry, and sometimes I wonder if anyone reads them(笑)but it makes me very happy if I hear that anyone does, so I decided to write a short one today.
What are your plans for summer? I hope you can enjoy it to the fullest, especially because summer in Hokkaido is short!
American Hamburgers
2016年3月21日 (月)
I grew up in Los Angeles, California, and one of my favorite foods has always been cheeseburgers. Now that I am an adult living in Japan, I enjoy lots of other kinds of food, including French and Italian foods, Japanese cuisine, and more. But, there are still times when I want to eat the foods that I grew up with. I have had hamburgers in restaurants all over Sapporo (actually, all over Japan) and I think that my favorite shop so far is Jacksonville, which is right here in Sapporo.
They have a really nice atmosphere, and the style of the food reminds me very much of home. Their burgers are 100% beef (no panko, no egg) which makes me happy. To be honest, I was really disappointed the first time I ate a Mos Burger – the patty was soft and chewy. I later learned that this is because they put egg and panko flakes into their meat. I understand that some people like that kind of patty, but it’s not what I grew up with.
I also like the style of the french fries and unique American drinks (like Dr. Pepper) that are available there.
I will keep searching for the perfect hamburger, but so far, Jacksonville is my favorite.
