cakes, cakes and more cakes!!
2014年7月1日 (火)
I thought I would update people on my rice cooker challenge. So far I have made pancakes and a slightly strange carrot cake. The positive points of using the rice cooker are that firstly it doesn’t make a mess so there is less washing up. Secondly, I think there is less chance of burning the cake. However that said there are some disadvantages, you have less control over the time of cooking and I somehow managed to burn the bottom of the cake!!! I also miss the traditional method of cooking; I guess it is something my mum taught me.
Thank you to everyone who has told me about their rice cooker cake stories. I was so happy to get a recipe from one student. Thank you for reading my blogs and supporting my challenges!!!
Summer!
2014年6月29日 (日)
Happy Summer everyone! June 21 was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. My husband and I had tapas and wine in our garden to celebrate. It was really nice!
This year the summer weather started early. March was hot and sunny; it seemed like summer! April was terribly rainy, but since May we have had lots of sun.
Last month (in May) we went to the Cannes Film Festival. It was a fun and interesting experience. The atmosphere was very festive. We saw Sylvester Stallone from very far away because we couldn’t get close to the red carpet – there were too many photographers and fans! The town of Cannes is located on the Cote Azure (the blue coast). It’s a very beautiful and famous part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Before driving home, we crossed the border into Italy for a few hours to have pizza, tiramisu and espresso in the town of Ventimiglia (ベンティミリア). It was delicious! I can’t find such good pizza in France, even though the countries are right next to each other. I was happy to go to Italy because I am one quarter Italian on my mother’s side (my mother’s father was born in Italy). So I feel like I have a special connection with Italy.
It was a great trip! I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
P.S. The photo was taken in Ventimiglia, Italy!
Rice cooker challenge!
2014年6月7日 (土)
I am done with making only rice in my rice cooker!!! I have read recently on different blogs that you can make all kinds of things using the epic little machine. I got home last night and decided to investigate and behold…. my rice cooker has LOTS of functions, such as a cake maker. Tonight my plan is to go home and watch “game of thrones” (my favorite drama at the moment) and make a little rice cooker cake. What cake should I make? I am thinking chocolate or a banana one. If I get a little fat in the coming weeks, everyone will know why!!!
Gyoza
2014年5月27日 (火)
So recently I’ve been making a lot of gyoza. I’ve never been a huge fan of them, but every once in a while I liked to eat them. Until I made them. Now, I make about 100 gyoza every month. If not more! Making gyoza is a kind of meditation for me – I get in the zone and try to make each one better than the last. I use a lot of vegetables so they’re quite healthy. And I can freeze the leftovers for nights when I don’t want to cook in the future.
Have you ever made gyoza? It’s a great party food…even if you’re the only one there : )
