February means.. FITNESS!
2013年2月22日 (金)
As February is coming to an end, I decided to start a new fitness program. As most of you know, I love fitness. I feel alive when I play sports, so from last week I decided to try harder with my physical fitness. I will research some healthy recipes and diets to help me reach my fitness goal. I wonder if any students have good recipes? If you know of a good recipe, please tell me.
Also I have noticed the snow is getting CRAZY! I have never seen so much snow in Sapporo. While it was good for the snow festival, I really feel sorry for all the people who have to wake up early and shovel the snow. I live somewhere with heated parking so I dont need to shovel. I am sorry to everyone who is having a tough winter!!! Take care and dont give up. Spring will come soon!
Moving forward
2013年2月18日 (月)
Hey everybody, hope you all are warm and happy during this exceptionally snowy February. I’ve been enjoying this winter immensely. The mountains are full of fluffy powder to snowboard thru and the buildings are all warmly heated inside. I like to think that winters in Hokkaido are a chance for me to be more active than in the warmer months. I like to think I’m acclimated to Hokkaido’s frigid temps, that anything can be done in winter.
My enthusiasm might die this week…
I’m moving to a new apartment, and am finding it especially troublesome in the cold. The snow makes it difficult to carry things outside. The ice makes it scary to move heavy furniture. My new apartment is always freezing when I bring over boxes. The gas hasn’t been turned on yet so no hot showers.
Moving is definitely easier in the spring.
Oh well, at least I’ll be happily set up in my new place when the cherry blossoms start blooming 🙂
Alarms in the Night
2013年2月5日 (火)
Last Saturday evening I enjoyed a late dinner at home, happy to be out of the cold. I cleared the table and poured myself a glass of brandy before sitting down to relax on the sofa with a good book. My room was very quiet – the tv was off and I wasn’t playing any music on the stereo. Because of the snow, I couldn’t even hear the cars on the road outside. I think these quiet winter nights are the best time for reading.
I was feeling really warm and comfortable when suddenly I heard a noise. It was a strange noise that I had never heard before – a loud chirping sound coming from my cell phone. I was surprised and a little annoyed, but when I saw a message like this, I was happy to have an early warning.
In my case, there was enough time to get up and stand in a safe place before the shaking started.
Early warning systems are an important way we can keep people safe from earthquakes. If your cell phone didn’t go off before last week’s earthquake, I recommend checking the settings so you can get an early warning next time.
It`s February... ALREADY!
2013年2月1日 (金)
Happy February!!! I can’t believe that it is already February. This year I am really focusing on recovering from my second knee surgery and getting healthy again. I have put off this new healthy Kim and got a shock today when I realized that it was already February and I haven’t started this resolution…..EK!
February is the month of love and as most of my students know, I am a hopeless romantic. Valentine’s Day used to be my favorite day, I always waited for a card from a secret admirer (usually my mum!) but in Japan there isn’t the tradition to give cards on Valentines Day. I like the idea of giving chocolate on Valentine’s Day but in Japan women have to wait until march to receive their “love” or “friendship” chocolate, I can’t wait that long!!! As always I will embrace St Valentine`s Day and make cupcakes and sweets for all my friends. I really hope that everyone has a great February and can eat yummy chocolate.
New Year's Resolution
2013年1月16日 (水)
Hello everyone! How was your New Year’s holiday? I hope you all enjoyed the start of the year.
Every year many people around the world think about what they want to do or change in the coming year. In English we call this a New Year’s resolution. Some people decide to go to the gym, while others decide to start a new hobby.
This year I have three simple New Year’s resolutions.
1. I want to try and save as much money as possible. I think we need to think about the future and saving money is really important.
2. I want to get more regular exercise. Actually, I really don’t like exercising but I know it’s important for both our physical and mental health.
3. I want to study Japanese! This year I will concentrate on learning kanji and grammar. Hopefully I can improve my vocabulary along the way, too!
So what are your New Year’s resoluations this year? Let’s do our best to make 2013 a great year! Good luck to all of you!
