Is it ripe?
2012年7月17日 (火)
I bought a grapefruit last week because it was only 50 yen. But then instead of eating it right away, I left it on my desk for a week. Actually I sort of forgot about it until today…
But then when I peeled it and tried some it was really sweet and delicious!
I was reminded of how important it is to let things get ripe before eating them.
I also recently bought an avodado, (or alligator pear as we sometimes say in the States), but I ate it the same day I got it. It was hard and not so tasty. I should have waited longer before I ate it. Next time I’ll try not to rush.
Julie London

Hello all,
Today I wanted to change the usual format a little and write about music.
I like to listen to lots of different kinds of music, and recently I have been enjoying listening to the beautiful work of Julie London.
She was an American singer who debuted in 1955 and continued recording until 1969. Her style is usually slow and soft, which accents her low husky voice. Her music is often jazzy, and never noizy, so it is the perfect thing to listen to in the evening after a hard day at work.
Sometimes new music is interesting, but I think old music can be just as good. If you get the chance, I recommend her ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Cry Me A River’. If you like cool, relaxing music, you’re sure to appreciate Julie London.
Genkin-Tonya
2012年6月21日 (木)
Hello everyone!
Summer is coming soon! Have you planned your summer vacations yet? I love talking about travel, so please tell me your plans if you see me!
I really enjoy grocery shopping. I sometimes spend way too much time in the grocery store just looking at all the different food.
Recently, I went to a new supermarket called Genkin-Tonya in Teine Ward. This is a wonderful place to shop! Everything is so cheap. They have meat, vegetables, drinks and everything you can find in a regular supermarket. They also have a restaurant. All the menu items are 500 yen (and the portions are large!). I enjoyed having lunch there and I had a really great time shopping too.
If you have a chance, please go to Genkin-Tonya. If you know any other great places to shop, please let me know!
Bachelor's Party
2012年6月19日 (火)
A good friend of mine is getting married this weekend, so last last weekend we threw him a bachelor’s party. For those of you who don’t know, a bachelor is an unmarried man. In western culture, bachelor parties are held at least a week before the wedding. Only men are invited (in most cases…) and usually these events tend to be pretty rowdy. In the past, when one of my Sapporo friends got married, we held his bachelor party in Susukino. But last weekend we decided to have a beach bbq camp bachelor party. On Saturady afternoon, about 13 friends drove to Mourai beach. We collected wood and built a huge bonfire. We set up grills and bbq’d burgers and bratwurst. We listened to music and told stories. And, naturally, we consumed copious amounts of beer and shot fireworks at each other. It was, all in all, a great party!
So guys, if one of your friends is soon to be married, think about throwing a party for him while he’s still unmarried. It may be the last time you see him!
Exercise
2012年6月19日 (火)
Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. Recently I have joined a new gym and everyday I am doing some strange stretch exercises, so if you see me walking around step up with a hobble, you know why. I have never really enjoyed stretching and saw stretching as an important task to do before exercising, however I always wanted to play sports quickly so I never really focused on stretching. Recently I have been asking my students if they stretched everyday. I was shocked that almost all my students did. So this month, I am going to try and stretch everyday and improve my overall body condition. So if you know any good stretches, please teach me them!!
