My Family's Visit
2011年6月30日 (木)
Hello everyone! It’s been awhile.
Recently my grandmother (who is 90 years old) and aunt came to Sapporo from America for a ten-day visit. It was their first time in Japan. We went to all kinds of places around Sapporo and Hokkaido. I really enjoyed showing them around and teaching them about Japanese culture. It’s always interesting to see people who are experiencing Japan for the first time. I remember my first time in Japan. Everything was so different and interesting: the food, the different customs, the beautiful exotic writing (kanji) – even the smells and sounds were different. Now I’m accustomed to these things and I don’t think about them so much anymore. But seeing the curiosity and wonder on the faces of my grandmother and aunt was really delightful. It made me wish I could go back and experience Japan for the first time all over again. Japan is truly a beautiful and fascinating country, and I’m really glad that I had a chance to share it with my grandmother and aunt. They enjoyed their stay here immensely, and I think it’s an experience they will never forget. Thank you, Japan!
STUDY!
2011年6月18日 (土)
Hello everyone! I hope you`re enjoying the Spring/Summer weather!
I have lived in Japan for nine years. It`s a very long time, don`t you think? Well, even though I`ve lived in Japan for a long time, I still don`t speak Japanese well. I must study! I want to take the Japanese language test in December, so I have to start studying now.
I love to teach, but I don`t like to study very much. From now, however, I will try to study a bit every day. I wish you luck with your English studies, so please wish me luck with my Japanese studies!
Let`s try hard!
Bicycle season!
2011年6月15日 (水)
Hello all! How are you doing on this fine June day? Hope everyone is enjoying the random sunny days (even if they are followed by rain!). The time has come again for the mama cyari race and I`m super stoked (excited). This year I am captain of the team, so it should be super fun. If you are around Moerenuma Park this sunday, keep an eye out for a devilishly fast team, wearing green tshirts and you might just see me and Jon, racing around. I wonder who will be faster this year, me or Jon? hahahahaha! We are aiming for the top 10. Have a great weekend
Stolen!
2011年6月4日 (土)
Hey everybody, how are you all doing? I`m ok, I suppose…but a couple of weeks ago, my mountain bike was stolen. The thieves came at night and carried my bike away in a car, I think. The ironic thing is, I live right next to a police station. But apparently, the Sapporo police weren`t intimidating enough to thwart the thieves. Big surprise…. Anyhow, I`m pretty disappointed. I rode that bike everyday (in the winter, too!) for the past 5 years. It was my car. Plus, it was pretty expensive so I can`t really afford to replace it with the same bike. Ah well, what goes around comes around. It`s the law of karma! Hopefully the thieves will get caught. Until then, make sure to lock your bikes up tight;)
Hobbies
2011年5月16日 (月)
Many people ask me about my hobbies. When I tell them my hobbies, they are usually surprised! I guess my hobbies are kind of unusual.
One of my hobbies is keeping fish. Not just any kind of fish, but Nishikigoi (or Japanese carp, in English). I have five nishikigoi at home in my living room! I used to have six fish, but one of them jumped out of the tank and died about two weeks ago. I was very sad. I like Nishikigoi because they are so beautiful and colorful and there are many different kinds. They are also gentle and very sociable.
My other hobby is baking. As many of you already know, I love sweets! But I also love making sweets. I can make pretty much anything, including cakes, cookies, pies, muffins and bread. I usually make something once a week on my day off. It’s not such an unusual hobby, but many people are surprised because I am a guy.
Do you have any unusual hobbies? Please tell me about them the next time we meet!
