Happy December

Well, it`s the final month of the year and perhaps the busiest. Between working and studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (ni kyuu), I`m making holiday plans, attending end-of-the-year parties, and snowboarding as much as possible. I`m looking forward to having a couple of weeks off work to relax and spend time with friends. New Year`s will most likely be spent in Niseko, riding the mountains by day and celebrating by night. And, assuming nothing terrible happens between now and January 1st, I`ll have to say that 2009 has been another great year! Bring on 2010:)

I had my first real taste of snowshoeing last weekend.  My friend Sophie and I hiked to the top of Kurodake in Sounkyo.  It was far more difficult than I realised, but we both made it.  The views were beautiful even though the weather report was bad.  It was so much fun that I will have to start going to the gym more often to prepare for my next snowshoeing adventure.

Hey everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the cold weather.  I have just come back from Australia, so it`s super cold for me!!!! I had a wicked time in Australia.  I did lots of things; I went sky diving (it was AMAZING, totally recommend it), visited some wineries, went shopping and even scuba diving.  The people in Australia were really nice and I even learnt some aussie slang.  Everyone was saying “Grouse” which means cool (I think!!) and G`day. Anyway, wrap up warm and stay healthly.

Hello, all:) Well I am back in Sapporo after having traveled to the Philippines for a short vacation last week. Have you ever been to the Philippines? My cousin lives in Manila with her husband, so we spent several days in the city. I couldn`t believe how dirty the air was! I had a sore throat for days…However, the people are really nice and the food is excellent. I was also able to escape with my cousin to the beach for a few days. The water was clear blue and green and there were plenty of tropical fish to see. Hopefully, next year I can return to get my diving license. But for now, I have to start thinking about the snow!

What happened to summer and winter?

I always wondered how soon the effects of global warming would hit, and what they would be like.  I now know.  Summer was cold and rainy and I didn’t even get a sunburn. I thought winter had finally hit, but today was so warm that I wore a t-shirt on my bicycle to work today. It’s so strange. Recently I’ve started unpluggin everything electrical that I don’t use, and try to take less showers and eat less meat. How are you trying to lessen global warming?
