The Silly Season is Upon Us

Hi everyone! Well, it’s that time of the year again and everyone is off to end-of-year parties, Christmas parties and of course, New Year’s is just around the corner.?@Many people over-indulge in alcoholic beverages – that’s why we call it the ‘silly’ season. Although many people don’t celebrate Christmas in Japan, most foreigners will?@get together for some roast chicken and traditional Christmas food as well as a glass of wine or two. This year it’s my turn to host Christmas so I’m hunting the supermarkets of Sapporo for as many whole chickens as I can find! Will you celebrate Christmas this year? What are your plans for New Year’s?

Well, the day is just about there. I have less than twenty four hours until I fly to Canada. I’m so excited but I’ve been running around like crazy looking for souvenirs. I almost don’t have room for my own clothes because I have too many. What kind of souvenirs do you like?

Christmas is just around the corner...

Well, there is snow on the ground, and it feels like Christmas is coming, which is great because Christmas is my favourite time of year. I love the atmosphere, with Christmas songs being played in shops (Wham`s “Last Christmas” seems to be popular in Japan!) and people buying presents for each other. Christmas is also a great time for eating food. I usually put on a lot of weight! I`m going to try to cook a traditional English Christmas lunch this year which should be fun!

I’ve been really busy entertaining my guests from England over the last week and a half. We took Jono and Liz to all sorts of different restaurants…I’d forgotten how much variety there is in Japanese food. I think they had a good time here in Sapporo. This morning we said goodbye but we’ll see them again at our wedding next March. As much as I’ve enjoyed going out for dinner, tonight I’m looking forward to doing some home cooking and relaxing with a DVD. Have you seen any good movies lately?

Return to normal

just like Alan, I too am glad that the test is over. Life can return to normal now, and since it’s winter, that will involve snowboarding as much as humanly possible. I hope everyone that lives in Hokkaido enjoys winter as much as me. For everyone that is new to Hokkaido, you are in for a special treat soon, more snow than you can shake a stick at!
